Some of you may already know that Anissa’s husband, Ricardo Pena, is a retired Phoenix Police Officer. As an officer’s wife, she has witnessed and experienced the rollercoaster of emotions that come with this noble profession. There have been moments of great pride, joy, and celebration as her husband returned home with awards, filled with the amazing joy of a hero. Yet, there have also been days of heartbreak and fear, knowing that each shift could bring unforeseen challenges.
Calls involving children were always the hardest, and the weight of fear was a constant companion. Saying “Goodbye” at the start of each shift felt too final, so she chose to say, “See you when you get home or try to come home on time,” holding onto the hope that he would return safely.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties, her family felt immensely blessed that he came home every day, unharmed. This personal connection to law enforcement fuels our agency’s dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those who serve and protect our communities.
